Joining and Advancing

Joining

Requirements: Anyone may choose to join The Last Atlantis, as long as it is with the understanding that this is a literate roleplaying site. Because of this, overly short posts and excessively bad grammar and spelling will not be tolerated. This is a site to hone your writing skills; if you wish to only post one-liners, then that is perfectly legitimate—however, if this is the case than The Last Atlantis is not the site for you. Newcomers (members who have not yet passed the Advancement Application) are still expected to have at the barest minimum 200 words in each post and to have spell-checked and reread each post beforehand. Longer posts are of course more than welcome.

How to Join: Fill out the Application here. After you have done so, please register on the forums with your character name.

Explanations of the Application fields

Character Name: This will be your screen name on the forums as well. It may be only a first name or a full name. No underscores, numbers, or special symbols please.

E-mail Address: This is required for our records only, and so that we can validate your account. It will not be made public.

Character Gender: We prefer that you keep this the same as your own, but that is not a requirement.

How did you hear about us? Try to be as specific as you can. We like to know what advertising methods are working and also to reward members who have gotten the word out about us.

Have you read and agreed to all the rules? If not, please do so here. If there is anything that you have a problem with, please e-mail us at thelastatlantis@yahoo.com.

Writing Sample: This is simply to get an initial assessment of your skill level and also to make sure that you understand our requirements. While we encourage you to use both the character you are registering with and a setting from Atlantis, neither is required. However, your post must be at least 200 words and contain mostly correct grammar and spelling. Users who do not wish to do this are encouraged to join another site.

Other Comments: Write anything you’d like to tell us here, or nothing at all.

At this point you will be re-directed to the Last Atlantis forums. Your application will be reviewed and an e-mail will be sent to you within three days telling you whether you have been accepted or not. Keep in mind that this process is not intended to be difficult. The only applicants who are denied are those who do not comply with our rules or present an excessively bad use of the English language. As long as you put in a little bit of effort into your application, you will be accepted, at which point we welcome you wholeheartedly to The Last Atlantis forums!

Your may only roleplay in the Outer Rim boards at this point, but your character may be either Atlantean or Etrani.

Advancing

Requirements: After you have made at least five in-character posts, you may apply to become a full member. However, keep in mind that it is much more difficult to pass the Advancement Application then it was to join. We want to keep our “Advanced” boards genuinely advanced; this means a stringent application that determines not only your ability to craft a single excellent post, but also your ability to keep consistent in this excellence. For this reason, all your previous posts on the forums will be read through, and you will also have the option to supply another sample post that you feel lets your greatest talent shine through.

What will change: Once you Advance, you will have access to all roleplaying boards, not only those in the Outer Rim. You will also have the option to change characters at this time (though you may of course retain your original). With this, however, comes greater responsibility. Your posts must now all include at least 300 words (though you are encouraged to write much more), including those in the Outer Rim, and maintain high standards.

How to Advance: Fill out the Application here. If you pass, your membership status will be changed for you and you will get and e-mail notification of the changes.

Explanations of the Application fields

Character Name: This is so we know who you are.

E-mail Address: This is for our records and also how we can contact you. It should be the same address that you registered with.

New Character Name: If you are changing characters, write your new character’s name here. If you are keeping your character, leave this blank. Keep in mind that aside from this once, changing characters is strongly discouraged. Also remember that, once you change characters, you cannot go back to your old character.

Character Gender: This is only applicable if you are changing characters. You are encouraged to keep your character’s gender the same as your own.

What rank is your character? Choose whether you will be officially known as Atlantean or Etrani. If you are not changing characters, choose the rank that you have been using up until now.

You five posts: You do not have to copy your posts here. Instead, write the names of the topics in which they are located and either provide the links to each of your posts or just write where they are located in the forums. Naturally, if you have several posts in the same topic, you need only provide one link/direction for those posts as a whole. If you have more than five posts, than please provide links/directions to all of them. Remember that these must be five roleplaying posts, not OOC posts.

Is this the first time you have submitted an Advancement Application? If you have submitted this Application before but were denied, please just remind us.

List the topics you submitted last time: If this is your first time submitting this Application, ignore this. However, if you have submitted the Application before, please list what topics you had submitted at that time. This way, your posts can be compared and judged on whether or not there has been a marked improvement. If you do not remember, just say so.

Optional Writing Sample: This is an additional sample that you can also choose to show us. It may be a topic you have not yet or do not plan to post on the forums, a diary entry by your character, a scene that takes place in your character’s history, or even your character’s profile (if it is not yet posted). All samples, however, must use a setting from the Atlantis world and use your character (if you are changing characters, you may use either the old or new one).

Additional Comments: Anything else you’d like to add? Do so here. If not, this may be left blank.

What happens now? Your Application will be reviewed and you will receive a reply within three days. Keep in mind that this step is meant to be more challenging than joining was, so don’t be disheartened if your Application is denied. You may try again after completing at least five more posts, at which time your posts will be reviewed for improvement. If you wanted to change characters but your Application was not accepted, you must continue roleplaying with your original character until you do Advance. If your Application was accepted and you changed characters, finish any roleplays you may be involved in with your original character, but begin new ones only with the character you changed to.

At this time you are also strongly encouraged to post a profile.
